Hokkaido, Japan 2010

Our Hokkaido trip was romantic and rainy. At the Furano lavender farm, we saw a couple in the middle of the rainy lavender field and we thought it was so romantic! It looked like some drama poster!

Sunflower fields are so beautiful! . . . but no blue sky as it was a rainy week.

Dark clouds and mist over Lake Toya.

Walking in a single file with umbrellas across the lavender field in some light rains.

Mist at the coast, taken while I was in the train.

Look how beautiful the flowers are when the day was sunny! :)

Neat rows of plantations simply look amazingly breathtaking!

Hokkaido is famous for gigantic crabs. I managed to eat some. :)

Smoke coming out of a volcano crater. Our first time on a volcano! Suddenly our Geography lessons became so real!

Hokkaido has many beautiful landscape.

Another beautiful landscape.

Dried lavenders. In the lavender farm, there are many lavender products. There is even lavender ice-cream!

Moody rainy landscape can be very beautiful too.

Volcano! Can you see the tiny volcanic smokes?

We travelled daily by trains in Hokkaido. The train systems are comprehensive. We can even go to those hard-to-reach onsen areas. One

Grilling different types of shell fish. . .

Lake Toya before rain.

Hokkaido is more country side look that is different from the busy city life of Tokyo.

Hokkaido fresh shell fish spotted!

Harvesting lavenders. This scene reminded us of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory movie.

No matter which view we see Lake Toya from, it is so beautiful.

Pungent sulphur smokes in Hell Valley in Noboribetsu. Maybe that's where the phrase "stink like hell" comes from!

This shop sells uncountable numbers of music boxes. They are all sweet and lovely!

Rains did not stop people from rushing to view fireworks at the canal.

We went on this short guided tour that brought us to various famous trees in Hokkaido. This is one of them.

A lone lady by the tree at the lavender farm makes the photo nice.

Rain just over at Lake Toya.

The parks there are green and cooling to walk.

Happening junction in Otaru with many interesting shops surrounding it such as the Orgel Emporium music box shop. Further down, there is the Sushiya Street with many authentic yummy sushi.

We find this photo very sweet - blue sky and clouds, small house, tiny flowers with lush green grass

Looking down from the ropeway (cable car) and the bridge actually looks nice with the surrounding green trees.

We saw 2 lovely dogs sitting in the back of a car at Odori Park.

Trains in Japan are comfortable to travel in. But it is not the same for buses, especially if you are lugging your luggages around. Seem like bus service everywhere on earth need to improve!

Bird-eye view of Lake Toya engulfed in mist and surrounded by tightly grown green trees.

Kids learning how to make chocolate biscuits in Shiroi Koibito chocolate factory.

Look! How small are the houses along Lake Toya from top. The yellow patch is the sunflower field. The background is the islands soaked in thick mist.

Green leave wallpaper!

Must-try Hokkaido gigantic crabs.

Volcano! Singapore students should come here to see what a volcano actually looks like, instead of just theoretical knowledge from Geography textbook.

Gentle slope of plantation with lone trees.

Trees with beautiful reddish leaves are everywhere.

Hokkaido bee looks different from the Singapore one. LOL.

Seeing seal cruising up and down in large cylindrical tube is one of the main attractions of the Asahiyama Zoo. And we have to queue very long just for that!

School kids looking at a seal cruised by. After visiting the Asahiyama Zoo, I realized our Singapore Zoo is really way better.

2 cyclists passing by makes the picture looks even more beautiful!

If you are a landscape photographer, you should go to Hokkaido!
